Knoxville, TN – Vol Dining at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is pleased to announce the grand opening of several new dining locations on campus. Aimed at providing students, faculty, staff, and visitors with a diverse array of delicious and convenient food options, these new additions reflect our commitment to enhancing the campus experience and catering to the varied tastes and dietary preferences of our community.
Big Orange Grill
An idea years in the making, Big Orange Grill is a new concept proudly partnering with UT’s Northeast Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center and the UT Creamery. Big Orange Grill will feature farm-raised UT beef in addition to milkshakes made with ice cream from UT Creamery. This new UT-focused brand will replace the former Steak n’ Shake location.
Status Dough
Vol Dining is excited to introduce a new local partnership with Status Dough, known for its high-quality, artisanal doughnuts, which are made fresh daily. Owner, Joe Seiber, is a proud UT alum who is thrilled to partner with the Volunteer community to provide doughnuts and craft coffee, replacing the former Dunkin’ location at Volunteer Hall.
1817 Taqueria
A fresh and vibrant concept, 1817 Taqueria features a variety of traditional tacos, burritos, bowls, and other offerings crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients and bold, savory flavors. With options for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan choices, this new eatery located at Fred Brown Hall (1817 Andy Holt Ave.) is designed to be an upbeat culinary delight.
Choolaah
A fun and flavorful addition to the campus food scene, Choolaah is a fast-casual Indian concept located in the Student Union food court. The national brand brings a fresh take on Indian cuisine, featuring bright flavors and authentic spices imported from India. Guests can build customizable bowls with vegan, vegetarian, halal, gluten-free, and other dietary-friendly options available.
K Brew Express Expansion
We’re excited to announce the expansion of K Brew Express, a local Knoxville-based coffee shop. The new location at Fred Brown Hall will offer convenient access to
fresh coffee and bagels on the west side of campus and provide an inviting atmosphere perfect for studying or socializing.
Pop-Up at Arena Cafè
Don’t miss an exciting opportunity to taste something new with a limited-time pop-up featuring The Original Hot Chicken and Pinsa Roman Pizza. Located conveniently next to the G-10 parking garage, Arena Cafè is located on the east side street level of Food City Center. This unique experience will offer a chance to savor the bold flavors of Nashville-style hot chicken, and the delicious, light, and airy artisanal flatbreads freshly made to
order.
In addition to several new locations, Vol Dining is also pleased to share a refreshed storefront for Blenz in the Student Union and an expanded food truck offering to accommodate growing capacity needs and prioritize convenience options for campus.
Limited locations are open through the summer, and new concepts will open beginning the week of move-in week, Aug. 11-17. For more information about the new dining options, hours of operation, and meal plan information, please visit our Locations and Menus page.
