Meal Plan Information

UT is committed to providing its students with a comprehensive educational experience. The university has determined that on-campus dining has numerous educational, social, and dietary benefits. In recognition of the value of the living-learning experience, UT requires first year students living on campus to participate in the 7-Day Access Meal Plan.

First-year freshmen living on campus are automatically signed up for the 7-Day Access Plan and do not need to take any additional steps to order a Meal Plan.

All undergraduate students enrolled in 6 credit hours or more, who do not select a Meal Plan, will be enrolled in the Flex Plan.

The Flex Plan is $300 automatically charged to your student account when the 6-credit-hour criteria is met in the Fall and Spring semesters. The plan is automatically put on the student’s VolCard.

At the end of the Fall semester, students have the option to leave unused Flex Plan dollars in their Flex account, request a refund of unused funds, or have the Flex dollars roll in to their VolCard account. At the end of Spring, Flex dollars must either be refunded or rolled in to the VolCard account.

These students are eligible to purchase any of our Plans, and will be exempt from the Flex Plan if they choose to do so. Commuters are charged a sales tax of 9.25% when purchasing a Meal Plan.

If you purchase a Meal Plan you will be exempt from the Flex Plan. Please note that additional funds cannot be added to the Flex account.

  • The Flex Plan does not come with any meals
  • The Flex Plan does not come with any guest meals
  • Meal Equivalency does not apply

Understanding Meal Plan Options

The 7-Day Access Plan provides the most freedom for dining. Eat what you want, when you want. This plan allows you to make as many visits as you would like to our All-You-Care-To-Eat residential restaurants, or use three meals per day at Southern Kitchen.

These plans come with Dining Dollars to use at all Vol Dining locations, as well as free guest meals.

Dining Dollar plans spend just like cash and can be used at all Dining locations on campus.

You can also add Dining Dollars to your account anytime.
