Important Meal Plan Information

UT is committed to providing its students with a comprehensive educational experience. The university has determined that for most first-year students, on-campus dining has numerous educational, social, and dietary benefits. In recognition of the value of the living-learning experience, UT requires first year students living on campus to participate in the 7-Day Access Meal Plan. See the plan in the table below.

First-year freshmen living on campus are automatically signed up for the 7-Day Access Plan and do not need to take any additional steps to order a meal plan.

All undergraduate students enrolled in 6 credit hours or more, who do not select a meal plan, will participate in the Flex Plan program. See the plan in the table below.

The Flex Plan fee of $300 is charged to the student’s account automatically when the 6-credit-hour criteria is met in the fall and spring semesters. The Flex Plan is an account on the student’s Vol Card, the UT Student ID.

At the end of the fall semester, students have the option to leave unused Flex Plan dollars in their Flex Plan account, request a full refund of unused Flex Plan dollars, or have the Flex Plan dollars roll in to their Vol Card account. At the end of spring, Flex Plan dollars must either be refunded or rolled in to the Vol Card account.

If you purchase a meal plan you will be exempt from the Flex Plan. Please note that additional funds cannot be added to the Flex Plan account.

  • The Flex Plan does not come with any meals
  • The Flex Plan does not come with any guest meals
  • Meal Equivalency does not apply

Commuter students are charged a sales tax of 9.25% when purchasing a meal plan.

Understanding Meal Plan Options

The 7-Day Access Plan provides the most freedom for dining. Eat what you want, when you want. This plan allows you to make as many visits as you would like to our All-You-Care-To-Eat residential restaurant, or use three meals per day at the Southern Kitchen.

These plans come with Dining Dollars to use at all Vol Dining locations as well as free guest meals.

Dining Dollar plans spend just like cash and can be used at all Dining locations on campus.

You can also add Dining Dollars to your account anytime.
